Spotted: Layla Cosmetics Thermo Polish

Thermal nail polish at the drugstore?! I was so shocked when I saw this collection at London Drugs for $9.99 CAD each! Layla Cosmetics seems to have a lot of interesting finishes that we don’t normally see at the drugstore, like their Sorbet Effect line.

These polishes change colour in different temperatures. I like how they made the gradient on the bottle (supposedly) match the colour change! There are no names on the bottles, but the Layla Cosmetics website has a full list, as well as videos demonstrating the colour change!

I’ve never tried a thermal polish before, but I’ve always been intrigued by it. Have you tried thermal nail polish before? What was your experience like?

Canada Day Glitter Gradient Nail Art

Happy Canada Day! Unfortunately I didn’t set up my queue properly, so now it’s a belated Canada Day post :P

I did a simple glitter gradient featuring Forever 21’s Red Dream Confetti nail polish. It’s a mix of medium and small metallic red and white hex glitter in a clear base. The red base is Revlon’s Revlon Red, and the white is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this glitter polish. The glitter is a little sparse, the clear base is very thick and gloopy, and it takes forever to dry. I made the gradient by doing one coat of the glitter going halfway up/down my nail, let it dry, then did another coat concentrated on the tips/bases. Even then, I had to resort to pushing around glitter with a toothpick because the glitter would be stuck in a big glob of clear polish.

The result was very lumpy and full of bubbles (you can see it more clearly on the white), and  I had to use two coats of NYC In a New York Minute to even it out. It was hard to tell from a distance though, so it worked well enough to show off my Canadian spirit! I would definitely add some nail polish thinner before I use Red Dream again though.

I hope all you fellow Canadians had a good Canada Day!

Spotted: e.l.f Cosmetics at Target Canada

I’m so happy to see that Target Canada is now carrying e.l.f. Cosmetics! I’ve heard that they have lots of good products. Even though some might be duds, with everything at $4.00 CAD, it’s not a lot to lose! As far as I know, Target is the only store in Canada to regularly sell e.l.f. I’ve seen a few things pop up at Winners and Superstore occasionally though.

Unfortunately, the shelves were really picked over, it was tucked away in a dark corner, hence the blurry pictures.

Now that e.l.f Cosmetics are easily available in Canada, I’ll have to read some reviews and decide what to pick up on my next trip to Target! Do you have any favourite e.l.f. products? Anything you’ve been dying to try?

Spotted: Layla Ceramic Sorbet Effect Nail Polish

Quick post here, in between exams and paper writing. I spotted this display at London Drugs a while ago, but only remembered to snap a picture the other day. The regular $15 price tag on their nail polishes always scared me off, so I’ve never tried them and can’t comment on the quality. The good news is, I’ve seen a lot of their regular nail polish going on clearance for $7.99, and these new Sorbet Effect polishes are $9.99, which puts them on par with OPI and Essie.

L-R: Snow Mousse, Bleached Peach, Bubble Cream, Soft Fruits, Celestial Pudding, Mint Dynasty

There are swatches on the Layla Cosmetics website. It looks like these are milky jelly polishes with small and tiny white glitter. I want to get the blue one just because of the name: Celestial Pudding! XD

Have you tried Layla nail polish before? Are you interested in this line?

Spotted: Revlon Limited Edition Textured Nail Polish, Plus Swatches of Motorcycle Jacket

So yesterday I posted a picture on Instagram of a Revlon textured nail enamel display at London Drugs. These go for $5.99 CAD. It looks like this display is a combination of the Leather & Tweed and the Haute Rocks collections that were released earlier in the US.

Close-ups:

Revlon Pebbled Texture Nail Enamel

Mayan Riviera, Tahitian Coast, Lana’i Lagoon, Seychelles Sand

The two leather effect polishes (Motorcycle Jacket and Downtown) are said to be dupes of the Nails Inc leather effect polishes. The tweed textures (Martini Lunch, Uptown, and Woven Clutch) are chock full of tiny bar glitters. The pebbled textures (Mayan Riviera, Tahitian Coast, Lana’i Lagoon, and Seychelles Sand) look to be chunky textured glitters. Sadly, we’re a few shades short of the US release. However, I’m SO glad that we got Motorcycle Jacket, because I’ve been lemming it since I first heard about this collection! Read on for my swatches and review. Continue reading

Drugstore Chubby Lip Crayon Comparison

Drugstore Chubby Lip Crayon Comparison

I thought it would be fitting to focus my first post on the product that ignited my passion for makeup: the chubby lip crayon. Before these, the only makeup I wore was nail polish! When I got my first one, I was looking for a no-fuss “my lips but better look” for those days where I needed to look more polished and presentable. But the colour wasn’t quite right for me, so I tried a different brand… and then I got hooked! So now I have five brands of drugstore chubby lip crayons to compare!

This post will be more about comparing the different products than reviewing them. These have all been out for a while, so if you’re looking for an in-depth review of a particular product, you can find a lot of reviews with a quick search. The products I will be comparing are:

  1. CoverGirl LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Cocoa Twist
  2. NYC City Proof Twistable Intense Lip Color in Brooklyn Brownstone
  3. Rimmel London Lasting Finish Colour Rush Intense Colour Balm in Not An Illusion
  4. Hard Candy All Glossed Up Hydrating Lip Stain in Chic
  5. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey
